Community Partners and Collaborators

The garden is thankful for to all of our Community Partners and volunteers who assist us in maintaining the garden for the community to enjoy.

Volunteer groups currently working with the garden:

Shoal Creek Watershed Alliance

A group of citizens working to protect, appreciate, and educate residents and others about the Shoal Creek watershed.  Meetings are held at the Oakhurst Garden at 7:00 PM on the third Monday of each month. Activities at the garden location include monthly chemical monitoring (testing the water for dissolved oxygen, settleable solids, ph and temperature); quarterly biological testing (counting the variety and number of macro invertebrates in the stream); ongoing monitoring for sedimentation, erosion, sewer leaks, etc.; and participating in stream clean ups and ivy pulls.
For more information, please contact Don Lake lakepack@mindspring.com or Maggie Kelly at mok7@cdc.gov .

Acadame de Oaks

Annie Sommerville comes on a weekly basis (weather permitting) with three high school students from Academe de Oaks.  They check the hives, including the mite trays, and record in the journal what they saw, and what needs to be done.
For more information, please contact ocgp@bellsouth.net, www.academeatlanta.org

Americorps

Outward Bound A group of nine students who give one year of their life to serve both environmental restoration projects and work with the Atlanta Public School system.  Americorps comes to the garden at least once per month to do all sorts of work: spreading wood chips, planting, creating habitats, and other miscellaneous work.  The garden is thankful for this group’s assistance in maintaining the garden for the community to enjoy.
